His’n'Hers Socks

Time for the knitter to chip in. :)

My main knitting project this week was trying to find a sock pattern that I could make both in women’s and men’s sizes.  With Valentine’s day coming (well, tomorrow) and our wedding anniversary two days after, I thought it would be nice if my DH and I had matching socks.  He loves my handknit socks but he goes through them pretty quick.  One pair are on their second repair.  But he’s proud to wear them, so much that he shows them off to the kids that he teaches.  One kid was so impressed that he has been pestering my DH to ask me to knit a pair of socks for him, he’d even pay!  If only I was a quicker knitter I might be able to make some money out of knitting special school socks.

Anyway, after a lot of searching, and asking for help on Ravelry (though they suggested using the Sensational Knitted Socks books but I haven’t worked out how to use them yet!  I’m easily intimidated) I settled on a pattern:

His and Hers Socks

My DH gets the brown yarn which is Dream in Color Smooshy in Chinatown Apple and Mine will be made in Mountain Colors Bearfoot in Gold Rush.  The Thelonious Pattern by Cookie A is a really versatile pattern.  I have seen it made in a solid color (as shown in the picture) but I have also seen it made in a variegated yarn and it suits both.  So although we’ll have matching socks, we get our own style!

Wow, you can get your husband to wear a lace sock pattern? He must be one cool guy. I have used SKS, and MSKS, but I actually prefer Ann Budd’s ‘the Knitters Handy Book of Patterns,’ because it has patterns for mittens, gloves, hats, and socks, and here’s the important part—the layout is WAY clearer than sensational. Much, much better.

Woo! I can’t wait to see how it will look. Good Luck! :-)
